The Beauty of Waves, Flowers & Island Life || North Shore Hawaii Surf Art
There are few places in the world that capture the imagination quite like Oahu's North Shore in the beautiful Hawaiian Island chain. Famous for its powerful waves, lush tropical landscapes and unmistakable island spirit, the North Shore has become an enduring symbol of Hawaii's connection to the ocean and the surf world worldwide.
For me this painting brings that feeling to life through a colorful combination of ocean waves, tropical foliage, Hawaiian flowers and distant green islands.

At first my eye is drawn to the brilliant blue waves rolling across the ocean. The curling waves create movement and energy, I often add bold outlines over the saturated colors to give the painting a distinctive graphic quality my art has been associated with over the past 25 years.
Surrounding the ocean are some of my favorite tropical plants and bright yellow hibiscus flowers, creating a beautiful contrast between the deep blues of the Pacific and the warm colors of the Hawaiian landscape.

The Spirit of Hawai'i in Each Wave
What makes art so appealing to me is its ability to communicate more than just a particular location. The ocean represents movement, adventure and freedom. The tropical flowers and plants bring the viewer back to the land, while the small green islands on the horizon provide us a sense of place in a hurried world. To me, when you bring these elements together, an image is created that feels unmistakably Hawaiian.
My work is closely associated with the colorful, optimistic side of contemporary surf culture and Island-inspired art. I want my visions to bring together the things that make island life so memorable: waves, beaches, tropical vegetation, flowers, smiling people, sunshine and the ocean.
Hawaiian Island Paradise is a strong example of that approach. Rather than just depicting the ocean as an isolated landscape, I wanted the artwork to showcase the waves within a larger Hawaiian environment. I feel like the end result is a celebration of the relationship between land and sea—one of the defining characteristics of life in the Hawaiian Islands.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read a little about my art!

Why Surf Art Makes a Great Hawaiian-Inspired Gift
Hawaii art can be particularly meaningful for people who have a connection to the islands—or simply love the ocean.
A piece like this can remind someone of:
- A favorite trip to Hawaiʻi
- Surfing on the North Shore
- Family vacations in the islands
- Time spent near the Pacific Ocean
- The tropical flowers and landscapes of Hawaii
- The relaxed island lifestyle
That makes Hawaii surf art more than decorative artwork. For many collectors and Hawaii lovers, it becomes a visual reminder of a particular place, experience or feeling.
